Maison Margiela’s latest runway in Tokyo felt like a collection you have to sit with for a moment. While some critics are calling it too abstract and out there, there is a clear through line for anyone really paying attention. Especially when it comes to pieces that feel genuinely wearable and long-lasting.

Beneath the conceptual layers that catch the eye, this collection delivers on strong tailoring, elevated outerwear, and silhouettes that can translate into an everyday wardrobe. It’s that Margiela balance where artistry is present, but never at the expense of wearability.

From the perspective of a stylist, this is where the collection can really open up. So many pieces that invite interpretation. The kind of pieces that can take a back seat for a clean directional look, or layer into something more expressive. It gives flexibility without losing its impact, which is an example of what makes something valuable long term in a client's wardrobe.

The masks added a compelling dimension. Rather than concealing, they actually introduce a question. There's quite an ambiguity that allows for wear to cross identities. This brings in a genderless, playful energy that makes the collection feel more inclusive and adaptable.

Yes, it leans abstract. But not in a way that disconnects us from it. If anything at all, it reinforces that the most enduring luxury is not the most obvious.
